چکیده
Submarine landslides are a major marine geohazard affecting resilience of offshore infrastructure and coastal urban centers. Attention has previously been paid to quantifying post-failure dynamics catastrophic submarine debris flows their consequences. However, pre-failure initiation growth small slip surface evolving into large landslide still less understood. This study aims explore the physical failure mechanism initiated from surfaces quantify key features evolution. They achieved by modeling entire three-dimensional (3D) evolution, integrating surface, slab above mass movement re-deposition transported sediments, using novel numerical method. The characteristics within favored layer patterns in overlying have thoroughly discussed. transition diverse first observed discussed with 3D geometry effects, revealing complex cascading mechanisms. criterion for unstable planar critical condition proposed. findings facilitate scientific understanding evolution historic events help safeguarding developments against recurrence.

3D stochastic rock fracture modeling related to strike-slip faults
Fault zones and fault-related fracture systems control the mechanical behaviors and fluid-flow properties of the Earth’s crust. Furthermore, nowadays, modeling is being increasingly used in order to understand the behavior of rock masses, and to determine their characteristics. In this work, fault zones and fracture patterns are reviewed, and also comprehensive studies are carried out on the fr...
متن کاملHow Did Large-Scale Complex Societies Evolve?
After a long and turbulent history, the study of human cultural evolution is fi nally becoming comparable to the study of genetic evolution, with human history the counterpart of the biological fossil record. One of the most remarkable products of cultural evolution has been an increase in the scale of human societies by many orders of magnitude. Today, the great majority of humans live in comp...

متن کاملNumerical Modeling of Seismic-induced Soil Response Around Submarine Pipeline
Seismic-induced pore pressure and effective stresses in the saturated porous seabed under seismic loading are the main factors that govern the overall stability of submarine pipelines. In most of the previous investigations for the seismic-induced dynamic response around a submarine pipeline have been limited to two-dimension cases. In this paper, a three-dimensional finite element model includ...
متن کاملA Three-dimensional Numerical Modeling of Contaminant Dispersion from Arvand Rood River into the Persian Gulf
The Persian Gulf is an important economic and geo-political region. Owing to its oil and gas resources, it is one of the busiest waterways in the world. There are many operating oil wells in the northern part of the Persian Gulf . As a result, the risk of contaminant dispersion is high. The deliberate discharge of 6.3 million barrels of crude oil during the 1991 war against Kuwait in this regio...
